Portrait Lens

Sun Apr 23, 2006, 5:54 AM
Been doing a LOT of maternity/children/family stuff and not the usual things we like to do.. Thats why we really havent been submitting.

We have a question for ya!

What type of lense do YOU use for portraits? We've been using our 50mm f1.8 with our 300d a lot but are always looking for better stuff.

Any suggestions? What would you recommend?

Actually, that's the exact set up I use for portraits. That, or my 10-22mm. Though that's not always the most flattering of lenses. :P

I think my next purchase is going to be an 85mm f/1.8; I hear those are fantastic portrait lenses.

I'd second an 85mm f/1.8 :)

Well I'd use a longer zoom. Maybe 50-200 or 70-300 (that im going to buy) to get the background blurred. It's allso nice when you dont have to be so close to the model so he/she doesnt feel disturbed.

Peace out! :)

80 or 100mm is normally considered ideal for portrait work, but that is with a 35mm film, and I know the sensors on digitals are not at all full frame so the equivilant MM is different. Typically I tend to use my 70-210 as it is idea for adjusting the framing with a little extra if for some reason I want to get in really close for drama.

spirits bless,
Marion
